56 - Oh Baby

“C’mere.”  Jon pulled her into his lap and wrapped both arms around her.  “Ari, I know you’re scared, but look at all the obstacles you have faced in your life and you’ve handled each and every one of them.  They’ve made you who you are today -- the strong, beautiful, independent woman I fell in love with.  You can do this too.”

“But...”

“Ssshh” he kissed the top of her head “First things first, let’s get through the next couple days and when we get home, we can find a doctor and go from there.”

“Define home?” She turned in his lap, so they were now facing one another.

“New Jersey.”   His tone was firm.

“Why not Montreal?”  Her’s had a hint of annoyance.

“Because I’m not about to let you go back to Canada for three months by yourself.”  Jon answered as if her was reprimanding one of his children.

Ari held up her hand, “Wait a minute Jon, Montreal is my home.”  She snapped back.

Pausing for a moment while he collected his thoughts, Jon rubbed her back allowing her some time to calm down.  He was only stating the obvious, they had three months until the tour started and the last thing, he wanted was for her to be so far away.   New Jersey made sense, at least to him it did.

“You know what I mean.  For now, it is.  Eventually it will be Jersey or New York for that matter.  And right now, I think it would be less stressful on you and the baby, not to mention me if we were closer.”

“Honestly, I haven’t really had time to think about doctors, my mind has been occupied with other things such as, am I really pregnant and how did this happen.

He rested his forehead against hers, “Not gonna lie, I was wondering the same thing.  I mean, I know the how,” he gave her bottom a squeeze.  “but you've always been so diligent when it came to...”

“...taking my pill.” she finished his sentence. “I am, but between Lili dying and you finding me at the hotel I must have missed a few days.”

“Could the test be false?"

“No. That much I’m sure of it.  I could set a clock to my cycle and if I had to guess, I could probably pinpoint exactly when it happened.  Give or take a few days.”

“So, when?”

“Somewhere between Wednesday and Friday the week you found me.”

“We were at La Pinsonniere on Wednesday.”

“And you left on Friday.”

His blue eyes went wide. “At the airport?”

“Jon, I don’t know for sure, I’m just saying it could have been those days.”

“Crash, when or where makes no difference to me.  You. Me. WE are having a baby, baby.  We didn’t exactly plan this, but I am really glad that we are.”

“You are?”

Jon slipped his hands around her waist and let his fingers graze over her tattoo.

“What are you doing?”

“Ari you said this meant ‘have faith’, and that you did.  So, have faith in yourself and in us.”

Ariana nodded, “Okay.”  Her fingers brushed his tousled hair from his brow, and she placed a few small kisses on his lips.  “I love you.”

“I love you too.  We’ll work through this, I promise.  It might be a little bumpy at first, but we will.”  He scooted her off his lap, “Now as much as I would love to stay here in bed with you all day, we have to go to the theater for a walk through and then we are having dinner with the guys.”

“I’m not...”

“Ah ah ah!  Yes, you are.  And since I’m such a nice guy, you get to shower first.”

She knew not to argue with him on this.  Instead, she slipped from the bed and padded off to take her shower.

Surprised to see her go without any further persistence, Jon sat on the edge of the bed and ran his hands over his face.  A baby.  Their Baby.  The initial shock having worn off, the reality was starting to set in.   He was going to be a father again.  Not something he thought would happen at his age. If he was being completely honest, he was part ‘over the moon’ excited and part overwhelmingly nervous.  He loved being a father, it was his proudest accomplishment in life.

Not really able to explain it other than a feeling that made his heart jump.  The first time they wrap their tiny fingers around yours, or when you see them smile for the first time.  Or how you hold your breath when one takes a fall and you want to run but don’t, not at first, you wait those long few seconds to see if they get up themselves.  Then they grow up into little persons who light up your world or an independent teenager who grates your last nerve because they think they know more than you do, but you still love them more than life itself.

A baby changes a lot of things, and things were certainly about to change... again.

Doing the quick math in his head they would welcome their baby into the world around June or July.  Which meant he or she could very well be born somewhere other than the United States or Canada.  Maybe they should consider hiring one of those traveling doctors for Ariana now as well as during the tour.  She may be less stressed if there was, he knew he would be.  This is one of the reasons he wanted her to come back to Jersey with him.  He knew all too well how she let her mind play tricks on herself, she would just drive herself crazy with the littlest things if she were home by herself.

Having her close to him would most definitely cause an array of troubles, he was sure of it, but he didn’t care.  Well, that’s not entirely true, he cared what his kids would have to say or think about him having another child.

As of now only two of them knew about the divorce and seemed to be handling that and him having a girlfriend.  At least Stephanie was, he still wasn’t quite sure about Jesse yet.   Having a baby with another woman might be difficult for them to handle.  Only time would tell.  If his memory served him right, you usually wait till the second trimester to start telling anyone and that would be fine with him.  It gave him some time to settle the divorce with Dorothea.  Telling her was not going to go well no matter how he looked at it.  He could just hear her; so, this is why you wanted a divorce, you finally knocked her up, it only took you nineteen years!!

What he should do is sit her down and tell her everything, whether she was ready to hear it or not.  She needed to know.  Sometimes, she lets her stubbornness get the better of her, but who was he to talk about that?  Maybe, just maybe, it would help her understand.  Who knows?  Right now, he needed to get Ariana out of the shower.  They still hadn’t eaten and they needed to get going if they were going to make it to his meeting.

Jon opened the door and walked into a steam filled room, “Shake a leg Crash, we need to get going.”
